Roark's Drone Detection as a Service (DDaaS) Network provides individuals, corporations, and government entities with drone detection services without requiring them to acquire or host physical infrastructure. The DDaaS Network delivers near-instantaneous access to area-specific, live drone detection feeds through a monthly subscription model based on required coverage area and number of users.
At the centre of the Roark DDaaS Network are our purpose built, NDAA compliant, drone detection devices.
The devices perform 3 key functions to capture drone data with the used function varying depending on the drone type.
Function 1: Using a combined Bluetooth and WiFi network card operating in monitor mode, the device scans known frequencies for data packets emitted under OpenDroneID
Function 2: Using a custom built software defined radio (SDR) board with high sample rate, the device scans WiFi channels for DJI Drone ID Packets.
Once data is obtained under these functions and has been decoded, it is pushed to a ZMQ decoder which then converts the data to Cursor on Target (CoT) form and also pushes to our TAK Server.
Function 3: A real-time passive radar that utilises a dual rf channel processing unit consisting of 1 x signal (FM) and 1 x surveillance signal (ADSB). This system is used to capture and identify drones that are not operating on Rf, for example fiber optic or autonomous. The output is a delay-doppler map which pushes to our front-end. The raw data is in IQ format. An example output can be found here
In order to accurately map the coverage areas of each device, Roark will incentivise COTS drone pilots to fly in areas of device deployment having pre-registered their device by its unique ID. Roark are then able to map the coverage via the “furthest seen” point of each drone in relation to each unique device. This service can also be extended to individuals using mapping tools on the iOS or Android device performing searches for MAC ID’s relating to the Roark device.
Users of the Roark DDaaS platform sign up to a monthly subscription model with the price being based on the amount of square KM that they wish to deploy live detection over.
The subscriptions are tiered with varying levels of data access and tools an overview of all services and tools is as follows:
